Traeger Smoke Show to bring barbecue competition to State Fair of Nevada

Cook-off competition to award Traeger smoker to top pitmaster on Saturday, June 13

(RENO, Nev.) – Backyard pitmasters, barbecue enthusiasts and grilling competitors from across Nevada will have the opportunity to put their skills to the test during the Traeger Smoke Show at the official State Fair of Nevada on Saturday, June 13, at the Nevada State Fairgrounds in Reno, for a chance to win a Woodridge Elite Traeger Smoker!

The Traeger Smoke Show is a public barbecue competition inviting participants to prepare and present their best smoked and grilled dishes for evaluation by a panel of judges. Participants will cook and present finished dishes for judging based on flavor, technique and overall execution. Only judges will sample entries during the competition. While public tasting will not be available, participants may choose to share recipes and cooking tips with attendees.

“This event brings Nevada’s love of food and friendly competition together in one place,” said Nevada Department of Agriculture Director J.J. Goicoechea. “The Traeger Smoke Show highlights the creativity and passion of home cooks and barbecue enthusiasts while adding a new tradition to the official State Fair of Nevada.”

The competition takes place during the three-day return of the official State Fair of Nevada, featuring agriculture exhibits, youth competitions, entertainment, food vendors and community programming, which includes:

  • Nevada Junior Livestock Show and Sale

  • University of Nevada, Reno Extension’s 4-H State Expo

  • Opening Night Ceremony and Concert featuring Caleb Montgomery

  • Next Generation Junior Bull Riding

  • Made in Nevada Farmers’ Market

  • Drone show

  • Local vendors, food and art

  • Carnival rides and more

Additional contests will also be happening including the Slice of the Silver State Pie Contest, Nevada’s Fair(est) Best Dressed Contest, and the State Fair of Nevada Art Show.
